If you love Beetlejuice you'll love Dark Shadows. Beetlejuice is full of plot holes however.. LOADS of plot holes. but i still love it, Batman is the best Batman movie but it's one Burton is very distant from, producer Jon Peter's was very hands on, wouldn't include it on this list. Ed Wood is great but it's more fiction than truth sadly. Big Fish is fine.. but no way is it top 5.
Sweeney Todd out since Big Fish that's for sure. Overall conclusion, Burton has only made one bad film, and maybe two naff ones.
As for NBC, Tim hired the cast, commissioned the scripts, worked with Danny Elfman.. all things a director would do.. yet the director didn't do any of those things... so who's film is it? it can only be Tim's

I guess I really need to re-watch Big Fish now as an adult, because I only watched once as a kid and thought it was the most boring film I had ever seen. I was at the age when I started to like films with deeper messages and such, so hearing so much about Big Fish my parents rented it for me. And I recall absolutely nothing from the film except thinking "this is so boring, this film could have been so much better if they did this or that". I wasn't a big critic or anything as a kid, I was into some goofy dramas here and there, but Idk what it was. I just forgot the film almost immediately and would have stayed like that if I hadn't grown up with people constantly talking fondly of it. When I found out it was a Tim Burton film I was beyond surprised, wondering how he managed to make such a film when he had made masterpieces...and then even more confused at how everyone praised this instead. And now it's already turned to a classic that I see in so many Top lists.
I'm just plain curious now. I want to re-watch it and see if there's something I just missed as a kid, maybe a charm or a scene that would have won me over. Maybe I was just not in the right mood that day and didn't miss something, just didn't absorb. Either way, very confused and very curious. This video makes me want to see it now.
My personal favourite is Corpse Bride though, by far. But nobody I know ever talks about it or knows it. It's so underrated.

Burton is like the best & worst thing to happen to Batman with Batman Returns being my favourite movie (of all- C&B!). Then he didn't keep a grip on it & end up in Bat & Robin! Does glow in the dark & Gothic ever go together?

I was gonna ask why Nightmare Before Christmas wasn't #1, or anywhere else on the list, but then I remembered, even before they addressed it, that it wasn't directed by Tim Burton, and that the movies that made the list only count if he directs them. And of course, they confirmed my answer.

I'm late to the party here, but 100% agree with this list. Big Fish is one of my all time favorite movies. It's beautiful, well crafted, amazing actors, and hits every single note it was trying to play for us.
Every frame is exactly what it needs to be. The colors are exactly what they need to be. The stories told are fantastic when combined with the narrative of a strained father and son relationship.
And that ending... just... I can never not cry while watching it. It's beautiful.
Burton has never made a better movie and unfortunately I think he hit his peak here. He's been meh ever since. Corpse Bride has grown on me over the years and Sweeny Todd is worth watching now and then, but it's not required viewing.
Sleepy Hollow deserves high praise though. It's also exactly what it was supposed to be. It's just that it was a perfect recreation of a small and relatively obscure genre film type.
Anything else he has created since though? Meh, at best, and with the exception of the pink elephants scene I want nothing to do with his remake of Dumbo.
