I urge the fans of Joe Rogan who subscribe to the alt right to do what they can to influence those who are in power now to do something serious to save the Amazon. It is a ridiculous notion that somehow caring about nature is reduced to left or right wing politics! It's our duty as human beings!

Sorry, my world is not metric, and I have no sense of the size of the Indian subcontinent. Amazon Basin is 7 million square kilometers ~= 2.7 million square miles. That is roughly the size of *mainland U.S. minus Washington, Oregon, California, and Nevada* . Rainforest is 5.5 million square kilometers ~= 2.1 million square miles. Rainforest is 78% as big as Amazon Basin.

    • surrealIdeal
      surrealIdeal 20 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

@Kristin Kulman Indeed. To be ok with mystery and missing pieces is hard for some people. Some fill in the gaps of knowledge with supernatural claims, while we should stay humble and acknowledge that we don't know everything (yet).

    • Kristin Kulman
      Kristin Kulman วันที่ผ่านมา +1

*surrealIdeal* I agree with you. Because the witnesses have died off, and there's no written record, archaeology has a lot of leeway for supposition. He said, "I make the case that they are connected to a series of ideas ... which has to do with death and the afterlife destiny of the soul." Which would be cool, but I don't buy it. I'm OK with mystery.

    • surrealIdeal
      surrealIdeal วันที่ผ่านมา

@Kristin Kulman I didn't say he was a total fraud. A lot of what he says is true. But he gets carried away, by linking his beliefs in the supernatural with archaeology.

Hmm, but you can look up Terra Preta, the LIDAR images, and the work being done by the Finnish archaeologists. He doesn't seem like the type of person I'd take an expedition with, but I find his story compelling.
So many sites on Terra preta...
A group of scientists and engineers are trying to develop a low-water sewage treatment system that is inspired by Terra preta. I'm not sure if they have cracked the code, but it looks like their system is safe for recycling poop.วีดีโอ.html

The explanations have been documented for hundreds of years.

What is LIDAR? - NOAA's National Ocean Service
LIDAR-Light Detection and Ranging-is a remote sensing method used to examine the surface of the Earth. ... LIDAR,
which stands for Light Detection and Ranging, is a remote sensing
method that uses light in the form of a pulsed laser to measure ranges

Wouldn't it be interesting if this culture possibly pre-dated our known civilizations? Almost like an actual Atlantis? It is not like the Fertile Crescent had simply been a colonized by some other people? Like an ancient non-Semitic-speaking people would just settle in a new land...a region with similar geology of a river basin? Oh wait, the Sumerians "the black-headed people" show up out of no where as the founders of modern civilization? I would be interesting if the people of this regions hair color was black?

That's not what squaring the circle means. Anyone can enclose a circle with a square, but finding a square and a circle that have exactly the same area can't be done without algebra. It's not unrealistic to think that possibly ancient South American cultures had discovered pi, but that picture or that Henge certainly doesn't prove that they did.

The nutrient cycle in rain forests (not just the Amazon) is so fast that organic, decaying matter never really has a chance to be incorporated into the soil. This leads to very poor soil quality for farming while still being able to sustain the abundance of plant life you typically see in rain forests.

"Squaring the circle" is _not_ just inscribing a circle within a square; such an act is trivial. It is constructing a circle with the same area of a given square (under certain constraints), and it was proven to be impossible long after the Greeks.
I wouldn't trust this guy. Getting something so basic so wrong with such confidence is a major red flag.

I wonder if they composted their dead. Human beings are about the only thing not used to make fertilizer today. Whether it's some type of ocean creature being mollusks or fish or squid or hooven animals like cows as well as chickens even down to and including every single part of these animals makes up fertilizer today. But we do not use humans. Just a thought.
