Old Japanese New Year still survives as “Setsubun.” (節分) It’s not officially recognized, but people still do fun stuff like chase each other around with beans and eat special sushi rolls. Check it out!

We do not care about other countries in Asia. Do not think that China is not the ruler, actually it is ruler I n Asia. We created the Chinese New Year a.k.a. Lunar New Year. The reason Why Korea and Vietnam celebrate the Chinese New year is China was the ruler of other Asia countries. If you r mad with the it, sorry it is the history and fact, you can google it. For sure, you can celebrate Chinese New Year if you want, if you do not wanna celebrate it, that is fine. I am always laugh when I heard viet said it is Vietnam new year, why viet is so over confident, I always heard viet is very developed right now, but last time when I go to capital of vietnam, god damn, it is so poor, it have not chased third-class city in China. Lmfao, when you are not powerful, do not be over confident, that was mistake of Chinese people, do not learn it from Chinese again, it is not good. You guys always copy, because China was your boss, I have to respect history. When you say Chinese New Year is from Vietnam, I always laugh, study more Vietnam people, help your poor country to develop. If you doubt it, google it, your new year was from China. Do not call it Vietnam new year. It makes you guys look stupid.

The only thing that really unites Asians abroad is racism coming from others, and since those back in Asia don't really have that experience you have these pointless squabbles.

since Japan observed Gregorian calender, the celebration become 不倫不類, Japanese traditional celebrations can't be disconnected from East Asia culture in whole, so it's time for them to reuse Lunar Calender, alongside with Gregorian to mark the celebrations...

The luna new year is made for agriculture purpose. It is said to be from the south of china. Confucius doesnt even know about it. that means north china copy it. If vietnam is proved to be from south china or mix with. Lunar new year is rightful theirs. Also, it mades north china a bunch of copycats.

Why are the Chinese commenters whining that so and so country "stole" their culture?
By that logic, Western civilization "stole" from the Greeks and Romans during the Renaissance.
I'm half Chinese and seeing all this cringey pride fest is cringeworthy.

I celebrate both Chinese and Vietnamese style because my ancestors are Chinese but migrated to Vietnam to escape war. However, my family is so Americanize we don't do as many traditions as we've had back in Vietnam. We just collect our envelops, eat the food offerings made at home and at the temples, and a family tradition made by my dad, which is to gamble for the entire day, non-stop. We gamble with our good luck money, we play poker, blackjack, big 2, and mahjong. We once played from the afternoon till midnight and keep track of the major winners because the new year may be their lucky year.

Man why do Korean people get so butt hurt when people mention their cultural heritages came from China? You know what's funny? When China becomes developed and "cool" again, Koreans will scream how they're related to China like how America, and European countries do everything to show their Latin (Roman) cultural heritage. Just because China is not as developed, doesn't mean 1000s of years of history don't exist...

    • Johnny Teoh
      Johnny Teoh 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

@Theone Ly Western influence does exist anyway and it's a fact that western culture are trying to influence Asia nowadays..

    • Theone Ly
      Theone Ly 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

@Richard Jiang Nope, never said it is. But Korean/Vietnamese don't want to be associated with China because of the history of colonialism. Are you saying that 1000 years of colonialism is considered culture-sharing/culture exchange? Chinese culture wasn't shared in a peaceful way. They came and colonized us, made us follow their rules. So we were affected by our colonists in many ways. Yes there's some culture sharing, but you can't deny the fact that the culture sharing came from a colonial history.

    • Theone Ly
      Theone Ly 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

@Johnny Teoh I never said anything about Western influence. I consider many Western countries to be colonists as well LOL So I don't see your point.

    • Johnny Teoh
      Johnny Teoh 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@Theone Ly then Western culture influence is not Western colonialism? Don't be hypocrite.

We eat a lot of hamburgers in South Korea like almost everyday, but none of Americans saying you Koreans have to thanks to Americans. Japanese saying everything in Korea is just copy of Japan and Chinese saying every tradition in Korea is just copy of China, OK how about China and Japan fight with each other forever who invented things first in Asia? because we Korean don't want to give a sheet about that. Lol
